The family is usually assumed to be the most basic and most important agent of socialization in the development of young people, yet the validity of this proposition is doubtful in view of the rapid societal change in the past years. The major aim of the study is to explore the family relationships of the adolescents, their developmental status in the areas of psychological well-being, achievement motivation, interpersonal relationships, sexual identity and attitude to sex as well as the relationship between developmental status and family factors. A total of 2087 young people were surveyed. Result of the findings indicate that the family is still the cornerstone of adolescent development. Many interesting observations were also noted.
