Outreaching Social Work
The purpose of District Outreaching Social Work Service is to reduce and prevent anti-social or delinquent behaviour among youth-at-risk aged between 6 and 24. The main objectives include:
(1) to provide guidance and counseling in the areas of education, career, family and peer relationships to those youth with special needs and make referrals whenever necessary;
(2) to prevent youth from falling under undesirable influences and in helping them develop their potential;
(3) to promote community care and concern about that which may hinder the healthy development of youth, and solicit help from the community to assist youth to overcome those obstacles.
In order to make contact with youth-at-risk and provide them with guidance, the Youth Work Officers visit those places frequented by young people where they are susceptible to undesirable influences.
Currently, we have two District Outreaching Social Work Teams:
(1) Tsuen Wan and Kwai Chung Outreaching Social Work Team serving Kwai Fong, Kwai Chung, Kwai Shing, Tai Wo Hau and Tsuen Wan.
(2) Sai Kung and Wong Tai Sin Outreaching Social Work Team serving Wong Tai Sin, Tseung Kwan O and Sai Kung.
