Hotline 2777 0309 for employment support in financial crisis |
People of all ages are anxious about financial matters at present. For job seekers it is a very testing time. Young entrepreneurs are watching profits fall while those
who wanted to start up in business are understandably much more risk averse. The Federation's employment hotline is taking calls about family crises, unwise investments, inability to cope with schooling costs, job losses and lay-offs. The young callers have serious emotional as well as financial concerns and many need guidance to maintain the routines of daily life, help preparing resumes or getting ready for interviews.

HKFYG Flag Day |
The Federation's Flag Day is on 20 August. This will be our most energetic effort yet. We are recruiting volunteers throughout Hong Kong and really need your support so we are giving awards this year to secondary school teams and corporate teams with the most flag sellers and the highest takings. Our target is to collect HK$2 million to provide equal opportunities for youth, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Community involvement is vital.
Can you help this effort in any way? Your generosity can help us broaden minds and brighten the lives of countless young people. Please show your concern and commitment to Hong Kong's future.

Twenty local students received the Felix Wong Youth Improvement Awards
for efforts to overcome hardship. |
The Federation seeks out youngsters like this who have prevailed against the odds. We think they need all the support and encouragement they we give. The Felix Wong Youth Improvement Scheme gives them recognition and supportive reinforcement. They really know what it's like to struggle and can act as role models for others, privileged and underprivileged. They've had an uphill battle just to stay at school. Their attitude shows others more fortunate how to take exams, and life, in their stride.

HKFYG Internet Green Charter |
The Federation is very concerned about young people's behaviour online and the inherent risks. This charter on internet safety lays down fundamental do's and don'ts including freedom of speech, internet security, copyright and piracy, exercising self-discipline and being careful with personal data. Over 200 schools are supporting the code. A seminar for parents and teachers took place on 1 March in the new HKFYG Building. Supporting organizations include Microsoft, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, the Internet Society (Hong Kong Chapter) and the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association.
